Ideas For Decorating With Maps

I have been excited by the new home decor accents I see popping up, that introduce the idea of decorating with maps.

Then, not too long ago I saw this video with Nate Berkus, as he was showing how to incorporate vintage and new maps as home decoration. I love finding unique new items to decorate with, don’t you? As Nate mentions in this video, maps can be sentimental and symbolic of places you have been or have memory of. Why not turn them into art?

After watching this video, I went seeking out pictures for some inspirational photos that might help spur all of us on to try a diy map project of our own.

Here is what I found…

I love this memo and message board covered with a map!

How about this lamp shade covered with a map?

I really like this magnetic memo board with a framed map.

I love this idea of transferring a map to fabric and sewing up a pillow.

I am ready to figure out what project I am going to do using maps in my home. Have you considered decorating with maps? You might want to give it a try!

  1. I love decorating with maps. You have some really good ideas in here!

  2. I love Nate and his decorating philosophy. I also have long loved the decorating with maps idea however I would like some DIY suggestions and some more frugal ways to get the maps big enough to use on walls etc. Anyone?

  3. I love these ideas. I am the family historian and genealogist and have maps of the world showing where my families originated. Some of Germany, some of the United States, some of Great Britain and Ireland. You are showing me where I can use these maps and show off my roots. Thank you.
