39 Ways To Decorate With Plates

Do you like to decorate with plates?  It is so easy to use plates in a variety of ways, and not just for the wall.   Collecting plates and displaying them has been around for decades, and it is fun to see how they just stay around, and get displayed and arranged in new ways all the time.

I have been working on my own plate collection, to create an artful wall display, so while collecting photos online, I just had to create this post and share all the plate goodness!

39 Way to decorate with pltes

I couldn’t believe the amount of ways to decorate with plates and create some other fun projects as well. I have collected 39 ways to decorate with plates.  Hopefully you will be as inspired as I was in seeing the beautiful array of plate collecting and displaying. The ideas are never ending. So let’s get started!

Ways To Decorate With Plates

Sometimes a big colorful cluster is fun, I like the overlapping of plates that makes this plate collection act as one piece of interesting art.

Sweet and simple cottage style can be created by doing white on white plates in a circle design for a fresh and easy look.

How about making a monogram with broken china plate pieces? This is a great way to use up broken and chipped plates as well.  Be sure to click over on the image link for the full tutorial to make one of these.

I love the random way these blue and white plates are displayed on the wall and how they work so perfectly with the lamp to make a complete decorating statement.

Decorate with plates for a shabby chic look by gathering up vintage plates in soft pastels. I love the sweeping curvy shape to this collection.

How about using other items with your wall plate collection?  I love this photo where they used silver platters and other vintage items for an eclectic wall photo gallery.

Do you have a favorite dish collection or color scheme?  Nothing makes a statement and can be simple than gathering a large group of plates in a cohesive color and simply lining them up on a china hutch.

How about turning a plate into a chalkboard?  This is a fun way to use a plate for a message board in your kitchen. You can click the image link above for a tutorial of how to make one of these, by Uncommon Designs.

I love this garden shed wall! First the wall has book pages as wallpaper, and then plates are hung with words that display a message! Super cute and unique way to display plates.

Plates are an awesome way to add a color statement or to show off a vintage collection. There is nothing easier then adding a line up of plates to bring a splash of color to your home.

Deocrate with plates by adding them up above a window on a shelf. The plates become part of the window treatment and bring the eye up to that part of the wall.

It can be fun to create a design with your plates. Think outside the box, and come up with your own new creative plate arrangement.

Have you ever considered making your own cake plate with your favorite collected plates?  You can make your own cake plate with this tutorial by Elm Street Life. ( just click on the link above for the how-to)

What about creating a random and eclectic collection of plates?  You can also use one single color, and then all of a sudden the shapes and arrangement are seen as art.  You can even spray paint plates to replicate this idea by The Nester.

This is a sweet swirl of plates over a turquoise painted piano.  Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make an eclectic and creative plate display.

Check out these Pottery Barn knock off plates , be sure to visit Between Naps On The Porch for the full tutorial on this fun project!

This is a sweet and meaningful plate collection by The Lettered Cottage.  You will love reading the post and the story behind the this plate collection, by Layla and Kevin.

Sometimes all you need is a simple white plate collection in a set square design.  The lace edge to these plates is perfectly highlighted by the pretty purple wall color.

What about creating silhouettes of your children and placing them on plates?  This is a pretty black and white fall collection by Beth from Home Stories A to Z.

Bold patterns can be what you need to brighten and modify a plain wall,  This is a super fun color combination!

What about using plates to write a message on your wall?  The ideas are many when it comes to spelling out a message or name with plates.

One single artful tray or plate is sometimes just enough as a wall accent.  I love the way this large plate was used in a bedroom, above the nightstand.

Wall plate racks are a wonderful way to decorate with plates.  Have fun moving the plates around and trying different color schemes.  You could also change this out for the holidays and seasons in a quick minute.

Have you thought about adding a monogram to a plate or plate collection?  Head on over to Lemon Tree Creations for a tutorial to make these black and white monogram plates.

Sometimes inheriting old plates and dishes can just take up room in our cupboards, but by hanging a plate collection on the wall you are enjoying family heirlooms and elevating them as art.

Black, white and red against aqua walls is a fun color combination and is playful in this space.

Sometime just stacking up plates and dishes in abundance is a great way to decorate with plates, and then your collection is ready to be used as well.

Your plate collections can also be your daily use plates.  Keeping plates close to your kitchen eating area makes them useful and pretty all at the same time.

When you decorate with plates, don’t be afraid to mix all colors and patterns, and why not bring the collection from floor to ceiling in a sweeping motion?

Or take your plates around a corner, like this blue, white, and green collection at View Along The Way. Really creative!

Here is another all white plate collection, which proves how shapes ans sizes become the art with one single color scheme.

This is a pretty blue and white wall collage that only has a couple of plates, in the mix.  This fun wall is a great option by adding wallpaper and paint to wood shapes and interesting items to create a new twist on a plate wall display.

Yes you really can decorate with plates in the bathroom! A perfect vintage style idea.

Plates are the perfect cottage style decorating accent.  I love the way this color scheme is played out, even with the painted dresser below the eclectic plate collection.

You can even use plates as picture frames! These photos were cut and decoupaged onto plates.  The plate and the photo will make such a unique accent for your home that no one else will have anything just like it.

Sometime one simple line of plates is dramatic and elegant, as in this charcoal gray dining room.

What about showcasing your plates in shadow boxes?  This way of displaying plates, will highlight them and make them each show as an individual piece of art.

Do you have some milk glass plates?  Show them off, and hang them on the wall!  By displaying your entire favorite dish collection, you can make a uncluttered feel when it’s all in a concentrated area like this.

The last idea isn’t really plates, but I had to show it anyway. I love this idea!  Maybe plates aren’t your thing, but these embroidery hoops with fabric is a fun idea with a “plate” feel in a myriad of circles. I like the way you could use any fabrics to make your own unique collection.
