A Creative Way To Display Kid’s Artwork

I’m sure your children are a lot like mine in that they produce a lot of artwork, right?

We have used the refrigerator for many years to display artwork, but as we switch out different pieces periodically, we’re then faced with what to do with the ones we take down.

Honestly, I usually placed them in a file so that they could be included in the girls’ homeschool portfolios at the end of the school year. But then, they’re not enjoyed…so therein is my quandry.

For the last few years, our youngest daughter Heather has made beautiful books of drawings for us for Christmas.

She makes a cover for the book and then staples the cover and drawings together. The cover of one of the books looked like this:

(I didn’t take a photo of the book with the staples…)

The books are just so precious, I wanted to figure out how to enjoy the art inside. One day when I was cleaning out the art bin…

I came across these large binder rings.

They’re essentially large circular rings that come apart in the middle. You can find them at any office supply store. Sometimes I see them at other stores during school supply sales too.

This way, you can thread papers onto them easily.

At the same time I was going through the art bin, I was going through some drawers too (de-cluttering day!) and came across this small easel that I had purchased at a garage sale a few years ago. At the time I purchased it, I had no idea what to use it for, but loved it and for 25 cents, it was worth storing until I could figure out how to utilize it.

So, with those few items in hand, I got to work!

First, I removed the staples from Heather’s art books. I three-hole punched each page as well as the front and back covers. Then, I added three of the binder rings to hold the book together. I placed the books on the easel and…voila…instant art display!

What I love about this is that I can switch the picture every day and enjoy a new piece of my daughter’s artwork.

And, we can add more pictures as she produces them! The binder rings are large, so who knows how many masterpieces we will be able to fit onto this easel over time.

I hope you like this new idea for displaying your child’s artwork! Perhaps you’ll be inspired by some items in your own home and find new ways to display your child’s artwork too.

All my best to you,

Susan

  1. Lori :

Great suggestions Susan. With 6 kids I have so much artwork – I always thought it would be nice to feature a few from each one around the house. You should write an ebook of suggestions!

  2. What a super cute idea

  3. Susan :

Thanks Lori and Kirstin! I just added a few pictures to the display today actually. :) An e-book…hmmm…

  4. I have always collected my sons’ artwork and have been laminating the ‘best of the best’. Of late I’ve been making photo books.

Visit us at http://kidswonderart.com and send us an email with photos of the artwork and we will display them on the art gallery.

Thanks for sharing this great idea.
